Hutchinson Bill Promotes Firearm Safety

With the goal of making gun ownership safer, Senator Scott Hutchinson is introducing legislation, Senate Bill 629, which provides for a sales tax exemption on the purchase of firearm safes and vaults.

By exempting gun safes and vaults from sales tax, this legislation would make them less expensive and more affordable for the citizens of Pennsylvania. Gun safes and vaults can be costly purchases, with prices ranging from hundreds to thousands of dollars.

“Gun safety is an important issue to all of us.  The task of responsibly and safely owning and using a firearm does not stop at the local gun shop or shooting range,” said Senator Hutchinson.  “This job also extends to the home.  Properly and safely storing firearms at home is a crucial part of the gun safety picture. My bill would not only make gun safes and vaults cheaper, it would also make Pennsylvania’s homes safer.”
