Legislation Honoring Fallen Local Firefighter Sent to Governor

Legislation that includes language introduced by Senator Scott Hutchinson to honor a local firefighter who lost his life in the line of duty received final legislative approval this week and was sent to the Governor for his signature and enactment into law.

House Bill 835, as amended with the language of Senator Hutchinson’s Senate Bill 1315, designates the State Route 4010 bridge over Sugar Creek in Sugarcreek Borough, Venango County as the “Lieutenant Andrew J. White Memorial Bridge.” White, a 12-year veteran of the Rocky Grove Fire Department, died when he was trapped during a January 2001 mobile home fire. He was 27 years old.

“This fitting memorial is for the White family from our entire community.  But it is also a tribute to all those who put their lives on the line for us each day,” Senator Hutchinson said. “We must never forget the dangers that our local responders face when they respond to an emergency and we have a duty to honor the memory of those who make the ultimate sacrifice.”
