The Senate Finance Committee will hold a public hearing on Wednesday, June 6, on a bill to bolster support for a program that helps distressed neighborhoods, according to Committee Chairman Scott Hutchinson.
The meeting is set for 9:30 a.m. in Room 8E-A in the East Wing of the State Capitol Complex, Harrisburg.
Senate Bill 512, introduced by Senators Wayne Fontana and Guy Reschenthaler, would increase the allocation for the Neighborhood Assistance Tax Credit Program (NAP).
Created in 1967, NAP is intended to help distressed neighborhoods through the creation of partnerships between community-based organizations and the business and corporate community. In order to be eligible for NAP, an applicant must qualify under one or more of the following categories: community service, education, job training, crime prevention and/or neighborhood assistance.
The committee is scheduled to hear testimony from a panel of business leaders including Jenn Beer, Vice President of the Greater Pittsburgh Chamber of Commerce, Scott Lammie, Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer with UPMC, and Bill Schenck, Vice Chairman of TriState Capital Bank, and a group of community leaders including Tracey Evans, Executive Director of the Wilkinsburg Community Development Corporation, Alan Jennings, Executive Director of the Community Action Committee of Lehigh Valley, and Joe Arthur, Executive Director of the Central Pennsylvania Foodbank.
