Child Development Centers, Inc. receives $400,860 Pre-K Counts grant

Child Development Centers, Inc. of Venango County will receive a $400,860 Pennsylvania Pre-K Counts program grant, according to Senator Scott Hutchinson.

Pre-K Counts provides half-day and full-day pre-kindergarten services to Pennsylvania children who are: between age three and the beginning age of kindergarten; at risk of facing challenges in school; living in families earning up to 300 percent of the federal poverty level ($67,050 for a family of four); and who may be English language learners or have disabilities or developmental delays.

“I am pleased that Governor Corbett sees the benefits of early childhood education and in particular the fine work of Child Development Centers in providing quality pre-kindergarten education for local children,” said Senator Hutchinson. “Investing in early childhood education not only gives youngsters a better chance to succeed in life, but it ultimately saves taxpayers’ money in the long run. At-risk children who participate in early childhood education programs are significantly less likely to be retained a grade in school, and that alone results in thousands of dollars in real savings per child, per year.”
